Signing up for free samples are addicting.  I think I have gotten spoiled now that samples are rolling in.  Rarely does a day pass that I don't get something in the mail.  Keep in mind when you start signing up for samples, don't get discouraged.  It is very random, I sign three of us up and we never get the same stuff on the same day.  There are times that a week or more will pass before we have all gotten the same sample in the mail.  Happy freebie shopping.

Target Coupons

Target does not have a huge sale this week.........however there are a few items with big savings.  Remember that you can use Target mobile, Target cartwheel, manufacturers coupons and even Target coupons.  With combinations of some of these, it can add up to big savings.  Printable MFQs will generally allow for 2 prints per computer.  Target cartwheel will apply to 4 items per transaction.

Publix Sale and Couponing

People often as how I do the coupons? With Publix having an awesome sale this week I am going to try to break it down the best I can with links online directly to the coupons.  Remember that for whatever reason you choose to coupon, it should not be stressful.  I used to coupon and clearance shop out of necessity when I was a single parent of two.  Now I coupon for fun, I like to see the savings I can find.  If it's something I don't need or want, I can always find someone to pass the items along to.

First, remember that Publix has a limit of 8 coupons per item.  So if cereal is BOGO, and you have $.50 off one......you can buy 8 and use 8 coupons.  If it is $1 off 2 then you can buy 16 and use 8 coupons.  You can use one manufacturer coupon (mfq) and one Publix or other store competitor coupon (most Publix take Target, Fresh market, and Whole Foods).  By using both coupons and pairing it with a BOGO sale you can really maximize your savings.  When an item is BOGO (buy one get one free) you can use a coupon on each item.

Most online coupons have a limit print of 2 for the mfq coupons per computer.  I often print from several computers and even my phone at home to get to my limit of 8.  Each coupon comes out with an individual code number on them, so you cannot use 2 of the same in the store.  The computer will reject it.  Target and Publix coupons that are printable all have the same code (they don't have individual codes on them......so you can print and copy.  If a sale is great, I will often set up to do the same shop at 2 or even 3 different stores, as I have 4 within just a few miles of my house.

Lastly, remember to be flexible.   Have a list and a coupon plan, however you may need to change that list and/or plan to accommodate the availability in the store.  Often, if an item is a hot one ...... meaning free or a money maker.......then they go quick and you may have to check back later int eh week.  Money makers (MM) are items that are more than free and actually give money back.  I understand that Publix with give you a gift card if you make money back, but I always have enough other stuff to cover the moneymaker and simply reduce my total cost.

So after being quite long winded here's the breakdown:


There is a sale that automatically takes $5 off a $15 purchase if you buy any of the items in the category.  You can mix and match the items to reach your $15.  You can also do this multiple times.  If you have $30 it takes off $5 twice and etc.  Super savings!  Buy purchasing $45 you automatically save $15.

Samples, Coupons, & How this adventure is going

It was almost 2 weeks ago that I started this adventure to see what is out there for samples, freebies, and coupons.  I had dabbled in emailing companies for coupons several months ago, so I had a general idea as to how companies would respond.  It doesn't take much time.  I usually spend about an hour a day searching for freebies, and emailing companies.  I do this times 3, as I figure if I'm doing it for myself its not much more work to do for a few others as well.  I just submit their info for them.  You could even share the work with a friend and have each other submit the information for the other.  When I find the site I am looking for I copy it so that after I have entered my information, I can just paste the site again.  Its been interesting to submit for more than just myself as we are receiving different things on different days.  It seems to be completely random.  So far, this project looks like it is going to be guide successful, and who doesn't love coupons and freebies!

Goodies have started to arrive on my doorstep.  Most companies state that it will be 6-8 weeks.  That seems like forever, but some companies are much faster.  breath right strips showed up yesterday.   The samples and coupons are trickling in, and I would guess that in the near future my mailbox will be overflowing some days.  If you are starting to get treats in the mail, let me know what is coming your way.

Emailing a company through their contact site can sometimes bring great coupons your way.  I try to email at least a few companies a day.  I tell them something I like about their products, the more specific you are the more likely they are to send you stuff.  I then finish with asking nicely if they send out coupons or samples to please add me to their list.  These are the companies that I heard from yesterday.  I like coupons that come straight from the manufacturer because they are usually higher value and have a late expiration.  Most companies send multiples which is great if your grocer does BOGO sales.

Walmart Beauty Box, Free Samples & More

I have seen a lot of hype about the Walmart beauty boxes that come out 4 times a year.  They are free, you just pay $5 shipping.  I was curious and decided to order.  When I ordered one, they immediately set you for recurring boxes.  I cancelled the recurring feature as soon as I ordered my first box.  There were some nice samples included in the box, however it was nothing overly special and with all of the free samples out there, I am not sure that I would order again.....in the meantime, it is a very nice sample pack full of goodies that are perfect for travel.  Items in the pack are shown in the photo, definitely worth $5, but not a super amazing deal that I thought it would be.

In my quest to see what is out there for free stuff I found that quite a few companies give away free t-shirts.  Below are links to 5 totally free t-shirts.  Who doesn't love a free shirt, sometimes you find your favorite t-shirt in unexpected placed.  Some other great finds are to be had as well.  If you have a new baby, look at the baby samples link.....they send out great stuff.

I just recently began this sample/freebie quest.  it's more of a journey to see what is out there and the response you get when ordering samples.... do they continue to send coupons?  Emailing companies..... do they respond.  I have found that direct emailing can trigger some great responses, and of course you can also get a response simply saying thanks.  The thanks are kind, but the ones sending stuff are fun and will be remembered.  I will post the links to the direct emails as I receive items in the mail, I am excited to see what comes in over the next few weeks.

I just began this sample adventure a week ago, and I think the hardest part is waiting for the mail to start rolling in.  When I submit for my samples, I do the same for two other people.  The fruits of the labor should start blossoming in the near future.  Yesterday, I had one of my first fun items arrive, a plastic double insulated tumbler with a lid and straw, in one of my favorite colors!  It is actually a great quality cup.

Free Magazine Subscriptions & Samples

So many people have done away with paper copies of magazines, but personally sometimes I like the real deal rather than digital.  There are two free magazine sunscreen deals out there today, one is for Cosmopolitan and the other for Popular Science.  I think they are designed for offices, but under the drop down employment menu there is a homemaker option.   Other samples are up for grabs, but some of these will go away once they are out of them.  I will continue to try to find 10 freebies a day and post them daily.

Why I don't let my child fail..... & Free Sample Links

As usual you can scroll to the bottom of the page for the list of free sample links.  There are some neat ones, kids bath fizzes, sewing kit....etc.  It has become a treasure hunt to look for sited offering free samples.  Also, be careful not to give out too much information when requesting samples.  A few sites take you to a survey after you submit for a sample, this is completely optional and does not affect your sample delivery.

Lately, I hear a lot of chatter about kids forgetting to bring home their homework with everyone settling in to school.  Lots of people like to offer tough love parenting advice, many saying let them fail, let the teacher handle it..... it's a lesson.  I for one disagree.  If you know my kids or me for that matter, you would also know that I am not one who coddles my children.  Raising productive members of society, and I have one shot at raising them, so I am going to make it count.

First of all, my kid gets home.....and realizes they forgot their homework.  They have two options:  they can say nothing and take the zero the next day, or they can come to me and tell me they forgot their homework at school.  If they come to me, then they are not intentionally forgetting their homework.  Maybe they were trying to be sure they caught the bus, or lending an ear to a friend in need.  They are miniature adults, do you ever forget things?  I know I do, so in the end its more important in our house that we figure out how to get the homework and do the assignment.  It's problem solving and a life skill.  I'm sure if they could drive and had a car they would have gone back for the homework.  So we discuss what they forgot, and I let them offer solutions.  Sometimes a friend can take a photo of the pages assigned, if the school is still open we go back (we usually don't figure out the work is missing until its too late), or there have even been times that I have put out a Facebook plea for anyone with the same book to send me photos of the pages.  The end result is that we usually find the assignment, sometimes its a little more work than others, but it gets done.  My child doesn't have to fail to learn a lesson, in fact one of the biggest lessons that they learn is that Mom's got their back.  

The same applies if a kid forgets their homework at home and needs it for class, or even their lunch.  We all have bad days and it's ok to forget something.  I understand that teachers can't always take excuses, but singling a kid out for not having a homework assignment is not teaching them anything. I would much rather take my child the homework so that when they go over it in class, they get the real lesson of the assignment itself.  Again, as a mom, that's having their back.

Now mind you, when I have their back, I am usually fussing at them. We work towards figuring out how to prevent this from happening again.  Does it usually happen again, yes, but it's not a regular thing.  Over the years I have delivered, lunches, homework, leotards, him clothes, turned around for forgotten cleats, ball bags.  I have also gone back to the school for forgotten books, homework, driven across town to pick up assignments from friends, driven across town to loan books too.

A few years ago I got a call from my college kid.  One of his friends had taken an adderall (not his own) and the drank a big gulp espresso (studying for a final exam)....and was not reacting well.  He wanted advice as to what to do, I sent them to the ER, and it turns out the young man was fine (a little hyped up.....and just needed to run its course).  That was the time that I realized that my shild understood that I had his back!

It's ok for a child to forget something and it's ok to have their back!

How to Get Coupons For Free stuff & more

Most who know me know that I like to save money.  It's actually a hobby, and fun.  I think it originally started when I was a single mom raising 2 kids on a shoestring.  Since, my life has drastically changed, but my shopping habits have not.  Saving money is simple fun.

Below is a list of samples that can be had for free.  Yes, once again free.  I never post links that require too much personal information or surveys.  Many of the samples I get, I pass along to charities in toiletry bags, or give to friends who might have an interest in a  particular product.  They are great for travel too.

If you love mail.....Samples, Samples, and more.....Free Samples!

Most of us love getting stuff in the mail, I know I do.  Samples are a fun way to try a product to see if you like it.  An added bonus is that the company usually will send you some pretty generous coupons with your samples.  Getting samples is fun, and can be easy.  Keep in mind when you order a sample, it should be simple.  I don't post any sample sites that require you fill out a survey.  All of the sites I have posted ask for your address, email, and generally phone number.  I also have created a separate email, it minimizes the junk in my daily email.  I do give a legit email because often companies email coupons.  I never give my correct phone number, I usually just reverse a couple of numbers, that way if I ever have to contact a company, I can simply say I made a mistake :)

Home Depot Workshops for Women FREE!!!! (Oh and fun, too!)

One of my goals is to become more consistent with posting free stuff, coupons, and  bargains.  Anyone who knows me also knows that I have to pay full price for anything......

A few weeks ago a friend told me about a clinic that Home Depot offers for women.  It's a chance to learn to use power tools, and walk away with a fun project.  I actually really enjoy woodworking, so I was all in.  It is usually offered on the third Thursday of the month, in the evening.  It's casual, fun,the associates are great..... oh, and the best part......it's FREE!  The website states that you pay for materials, in reality the materials for the project itself are included in the FREE, you pay for anything extra to finish your project, like stain or paint.  I personally left mine unfinished to finish at home, but there were women who stayed to finish their projects under the guidance of the associates at the store.

I signed up online for myself and a friend.  We arrived a few minutes before 6:30.  The project area was set up in the lumber area, the staff was ready and waiting.    A very friendly associate greeted us, and passed out instruction sheets.  All project pieces were prepped, which made it a ton of fun for me, as I am usually the one who does the prepping for craft project, an extra specie treat.  Everything we needed was on the tables, occasionally one might have to wait a few minutes for a tool, but the ladies were all friendly.  Associates spent time going from table to table offering assistance and making sure we had everything we needed.  In the end, we all went home with a super cute wagon for fall decoration.  It's good sized, made with one of the crates that they sell for $11.
